Social values, pro-bono projects & our CSR approach
At Hireserve, our five core values inform the way we do business. One of those values is ‘Perspective: We look beyond our desks’.
We’ve always sought to give back to our communities, and to do so in a meaningful way. We’re bursting with bright, curious and inventive people here at Hireserve, who relish the opportunity to put their skills to good use on pro-bono projects, fundraise for our chosen charities, and make a positive impact on the world around us.
On this page you’ll find just a few of the projects and charitable initiatives we’ve created and supported over the years.
“The biggest strength of Hireserve is the staff who work there.”
Creating a Graduate Scheme for SMEs
Originating from an idea by former Joint-MD Karen Ovenden, GradSpire is a templated scheme to support SMEs to hire, nurture and retain graduates.
Karen recognised that SMEs can be a great environment for graduates to start their careers, but that many may not have the confidence, resources or time to recruit, onboard and train an inexperienced hire.
GradSpire aims to equip small businesses with the tools and structure they need to support graduate hires.
GradSpire is being developed by the University of Reading, in partnership with Hireserve.
Delivering skills sessions to local schools
Several years ago, we began working with the Basingstoke Consortium (now merged with EBP South) to strengthen links between business and education.
Since then, we’ve delivered sessions on communications and social media to schools and colleges in our community.
We also opened our office doors to local students so they can find out more about working in technology. With ‘speed networking’ sessions in different departments and a communications workshop, we aim to inspire young people and enhance their understanding of the range of careers open to them.
Developing a volunteering portal for charities
Hireserve created ‘The Volunteer Pool’, an online volunteering platform where charities could upload volunteering vacancies, and potential volunteers could browse opportunities.
A small Hireserve project team made of Development, Marketing and Implementation team members, worked on a pro-bono basis with Poole and Bournemouth CVS (now known as Community Action Network (CAN)). We developed The Volunteer Pool brand, created a website, supported with the marketing and delivered the portal and back-office.
Launched in 2017, The Volunteer Pool ran for three years, before the re-branding of CAN.

Donating Hireserve ATS to the MND Association
Karen and Jeremy, our Founders and former Joint-MDs have long had a personal connection to the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.
So, back in 2011, we approached the charity and offered to donate use of Hireserve ATS to support their volunteer recruitment team.
Fast forward a decade and the volunteer recruitment team is still using Hireserve ATS. What’s more, in 2018 we were delighted when the MND Association became a client after their staff recruitment team selected Hireserve ATS.
We’re thrilled to see the Association use our technology to help place the people they so urgently need.
Charity of the Year initiative
From ‘cycling’ from the office to Paris to our Joint-MD Karen jumping out of a plane (yes, really!), each year we find a new way to support our chosen charity.
We’ve held office tea parties for our local Contact the Elderly (now Re-Engage) group, taken part in Dementia Awareness Sessions and raised money for our local Hospice, St Michael’s, through Christmas wrapping stations, bake sales and more.
Environment
We know there is no Planet B – and we know there’s more we can all do to continue supporting the environment and reducing waste.
When we’re in the office, we encourage team members to use electricity wisely, to recycle materials in-line with eco regulations, and to reduce the amount of printing required and use of paper. We’ve always supported home-working, which in encourages less commuting and carbon emissions.
We also offer our ‘bike loan scheme’ benefit and provide space for our team to cycle into work.
Company culture
You can find out more about life at Hireserve here but, as we’re very proud of our ethos and company culture, we’ll give you a bite-sized version on this page too!
Our working culture is underpinned by trust and flexibility. Many of our team have caring responsibilities, so agile working is deeply woven into the fabric of our day-to-day working lives. Now, with all our team working remotely, that implicit trust and openness is even more important.
With a give-and-take approach reflected from the top down, it’s no wonder we’ve been shortlisted for, and won, the flexible working award for SMEs at the Workingmums.co.uk Top Employer Awards – multiple times.
(We’re very proud of that too.)
